Luke Chapter 4

Jesus started the ministry under the power
of Spirit. Before he was surrounded by
disciples, before he went into the temple,
before he did miracles, he was filled with
power of spirit. The Spirit of God was with
him and until the last moment he was on earth.
The Holy Spirit was essitenial part of his
ministry and was working in the background
throughout his ministry. We can say, that
it wasn’t just Jesus and 12 disciples, but
the Spirit of God was very involved.

For a successfuly ministry it requires
infilling of the holy spirit and the power,
its involvement.

Jesus was always in sync with the Holy Spirit
and was led by the spirit. Jesus never did anything
apart from the spirit, spirit was always with him.
He went where the spirit lead him.

In Acts 1:8 it mentions the power will come
first and then holy Ghost, which will sent
the anionted to be witness of Jesus Christ
around the world.

Application
Starting our day with the power of the Spirit
can make a difference in the our lives.
Instead of waiting for the church service
or certin time in the day, if we are able seek
the power of spirit early and at the beginning, then
everything else will be fine.

What does the power of Spirit
– Gives Men courage to Rebuke Sin
Mi 3
– Mighteir than Phyiscal Force
– Enables Men to speak with Authority Acts 4:33
– Healing influences Act 19
v16
Jesus grew up in Nazareth and regularly visited the local
synagogue. Jesus went to church and took part in orginzed
service just like we do today.
The services started with invocation of God’s blessing,
recetations of Hebrews confession of Faith, deut 6 4-9 ,11:13-21.
followed by prayer, then reading from the law and passage from
the prophets.Followed by a breif sermon , then comes the benediction
done by the preist.

v18 Reading of the passage:
Once again, the bible empahizes the impartation of power of the spirit
upon him.
– God anointed Jesus Isiah 61 1-12

At the Potters House

Jeremiah 18: 16

18 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.

Then the word of the Lord came to me. He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares theLord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel. If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, 10 and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it.

Israel once again turned their back to God. Gods comes to Jeremiah and speaks to Jeremiah. Tell the people of Israel to come back to me, and I will make them great as they once were.  Tell them to repent and I will not destroy them as planned.  God has a covenant with the people of Israel, through the promises of Abraham. But God in sovereignty can destroy a generation of Israelite  in order to keep his promises alive.  Despite the disobedience, God loves them and wants them back.

God says to Jeremiah, Go to the potters house and there I will give you a message. A message is sometimes  shown through event, situations, people  around you. It does not always have to be God speaking to you with a direct voice to voice communication.

God says to Jeremiah, I can restore what once was broken as the potter restores the ruined clay. God wants Jeremiah to know, that God is above all, God is the creator  of all things and can also renew what was once planned for destruction.

A Marred clay is ruined clay, if it looses it ability to form a solid structure, it’s thrown away on  a field called the Potters Field. This is where are all the broken pots that cannot be used for its purpose end up.  But a good pot, such a flower pot or vase is used for a purpose that will hold contents.

Isaiah 64:8  But now, O Lord, Thou are our father; we are the clay, and thou are our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

We are the work of the Lord. He is our Potter, and made each one of us for a purpose. Because God is perfect, the work of thy hand is perfect to do his will.  God made us as it seem best to him. God made us knowing when  a situation arises, you are the best person fit for overcoming those situation and bring glory to

God.

When he made  us , he saw us in that situation and knew I was the best for this situation and to overcome.

But the people of Israel could realize this. There are suppose to the greatest nations. Kings are suppose to bow to down to them.  But because of their failure and disobedience, they has yet to come.

God is faithful to his people and but surely the people remained unfaithful to him.  God has always been faithful , the question are we faithful to him.  He had thoughts about us and loved us before we came into existence.  God made us bigger than anything else in the world.

We are his most precious creation, and most loved.  Humans are bigger and more majestic than the universe.

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

We are his handiwork, workmanship and masterpiece.

God did not mass produce us , he took thought, time and care to knit us while we were still in our mothers womb ( PS 139)  .  He took dust off Ground and formed us into being (Genesis 2 )

Psalm 100: 3  Know that the lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people , the sheep of his pasture.

We belong to Christ, and through him we belong to God as part of his creation.   He has sent us son, to be our Shepard, so that the almighty can watch over us.

When the Shepard is watching there is no reason to be worried. When we become lost, he will come find us.

God has something great in store for those who turn to God.

If you want joy , God says to “enter the potters house.

If you want peace and comfort in your life, “enter the potters house”.

If you want security ” enter the potters house”.

Psalms 139 – Our personal belonging to God.

Compassion

Mark Chapter 8: 2

8 During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, 2 “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.”

If you do not know what’s going on here,  lots of people have gathered to hear and learn from Jesus. They have been there for 3 days getting feed with spiritual teaching but physically without Food, and Jesus knows this and has concerns for their health. He knows that if the people go back home at the current state, they will collapse on their way. So as we know this story, Jesus is provided with  7 loves and few small fishes , bless the food, and feeds it to the 4000.  But today I want the focus to be not on the miracle ,but rather on the word “Compassion” .

Define : Feeling of sympathy for those unfortunate.

In another words,  feeling sorry for those in need.
Anyone wants to do God’s will, go into ministry  , you must have compassion.
its was his compassion towards us that saved us from death. We are supposed to hungry and collapse on on this journey of life.  But instead because of his compassion and intense love he has for us us, he took up all the sins, and feed and clothed us with righteousness.
God’s wills for us to be witness to this beautiful love.
When Jesus looked into this crowd he just didn’t see a bunch of hungry people, from the previous
2 Corinthians 3:8
And we who with unveiled faces all reflect the lords glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever increasing glory, which
comes from the Lord, who is this Spirit

Matthew 25

The Final Judgment

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, youwho are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,[f] you did it to me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Setting an Example ( Life of Leader)

1 Timothy 5:12:

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity

Today my message is about “Setting an example”  to those that are around you: your friends, your coworkers, your brother your sister, even your father and your mother.

This verse is part of Paul’s instruction given to Timothy when he was given a special task at the church of Ephesus.  We first learn about Timothy is Acts Chapter 16.  When Paul arrived at Lystra, he met this young many named Timothy. It says he was a disciple, his mother was a believer, but his father was a greek.  People spoke good things about him. So Paul took him along on his missionaries.

While he was under the leadership of Paul, he probably began to learn how to plant churches and be leader. Eventually he was given a special task at the church of Ephesus to teach and instruct them on how to live a godly life . Now since he was a  young, many elders might have questioned him.

We are familiar with the experience that Timothy is facing. We have all been in situation where you have something to suggest or say when the  elders, but no matter how good your suggest sounds they might either ignore you or disagree it with because the words are coming from someone young.  Similar Timothy was encountering the  same issues as the youth is facing.  He probably went upto them and said, No stop believing in those fales myths. I want everyone to lift up holy hands in prayer.  Women be submissive and be quiet. I’m sure they didn’t like hear this, especially the ladies.

After that

Then he goes on to giving the overseers and the decons of the church and tell them on how to run the church.

PUT YOUR SELF IN HIS TIMOTHY’s Shoes.

Now the task that he was given was extremely hard. I don’t know how someone is suppose to do this. But there is a way.  Paul says to Timothy, don’t worry, they might not listen now. But do this. ” Set an example” .  Set an example in everything you do.

  • Set an example in Speech, meaning pay attention to the words  you say.

We know words are the most powerful tool we have. There is a saying ” Words can make or break  worlds”. Obama do not become the most powerful man in the world by shooting or use of his own physical power.

Words were even more powerful when God created the heaven and the earth.

What you say in this world dramatically the outcome of the lives around you.  Paul wants Timothy to speak the word , speak about Christ. Similarly God wants each of us to speak with humbleness . Speak the Good news.  Our Bible has many things to say about how you speak …

Ephesian 4:29

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Colossians 4:6

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
Proverbs 18:20-21

From the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield of his lips. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Proverbs 15:4

A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.

 “Set and Example in Life”

Paul wanted to Timothy to live in a way that pleased  God.  Doing good deeds, helping the poor, and helpless. Life of prayer. Living according to desires not of his heart but Gods. A Life that does not confirm to this things of this world. A life so that his name is Glorified . Sometimes we get caught up in the things of this world. We are trying to fullfill our own desires when it comes to school and finding a good job.  Trying to meet the expectations. That’s okay.  But God wants his children to remember him every part of your life.  He wants you to make him part of everything single aspect of your life.  Bible tells us that we cannot survive on this world on our own.  We need help.

Mathew 4:4

‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

We need God in everything that we do.

Set an example of Love:

Paul want Timothy to love the people around him. Sometimes these people might have hated him because he gave so many commands. But despite that, he wants Timothy to Love. He want Timothy to to love them so that when they see, it reflects the love of Jesus.  Children of God we are all called to Love one another. Even your enemies. Jealousy and hate are the roots of Evil.  But Love is of Jesus inherited by us, because Jesus lives in us.

John  1st John 4: 11.

Dear Friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Paul wants people to see the Love of Jesus through the love that Timothy has .  Jesus wants the world to see his Love, using each of one just as Timothy was used.

Endocrolgist.

Set an example of  Faith.

Faith is important. This is what keeps us moving.  That’s what kept Paul moving. Our Faith in our Jesus , gives us hope. Gives us hope to fight a battle against evil. Our faith builds and strengthen us in the time of trouble.   Paul wants to have the same Faith and also to share the faith and hope in Christ.

And last  thing Paul advices Timothy is that “Set an example”  of Purity

Purity : Important to keep your mind and your body away from its worldly desires.  Purity is a battle faced by everyone single person. Many fall into it and become unclean.  Keeping your thoughts, minds and heart after what God is going to give or has already is sometimes difficult to many people in this world. Even to believers.

When Daniel was faced with a situation where he was almost  forced to  committing adultery, he ran off.  So should Timothy, so should we.

Dear

Be diligent in the matters, give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.  Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

Overcoming in the face of Opposition

Keywords: Wicked, opposition, Anointed One,suffering,

Our bible says in Mathew chapters 7 verse 13 , that the gates are narrow, and paths are difficult.  Most people when they visualize the narrow path  , they would like to think, path filled with flowers, and blue sky. Perfect weather.  I would like to think, its more like thorns and stormy, and dangerous.

when you are on the this path

See when you are on this Journey

You are on a mission

There is a destination;

it won’t be gentle and beautiful.

You will have to go through bumps, move mountains, and face trials of many, you have to face your enemy head on.

See when you are truly in the ministry of serving the Lord, you will truly know the existence of the evil.
The more deeper you get into your ministry, the harder the devil will work to pull you out of it.

The Devil will create Oppositions around you, so you falter, and become deviated from God plan for yours and my life.

Overcoming in the faces of Opposition.

Lets look into the word this morning and get encouraged in the times of such opposition.

Imagine Life without opposition. Our bible wouldn’t exist.

Acts 4:23

Different types of Opposition

Ridicule : Seen mainly through Friends,
More Intense: Punishment , or some type of threat  : remote regions outside the borders of America.

Peter and John Faces Opposition during their ministry.

  • They could have left the country
  • They could have kept their mouth Silent
  • They could have started a riot, they had many followers. So many followers, that the rulers got scared.

They did not rely on their strength, instead they took it upto God. First thing they did was join in prayer with their own people. They did not look for solution from themselves, but they seeked God.
– Sometimes when we feel threatened and feel discouraged, we respond to either by anger, some type of action contrary to the teachings.

Devils Objective: discouraged. – Quit on God. Become hopeless. Dependence on God becomes less. God’s work is not being fulfilled.

Acts 4: 27

Herod and  Pontius Pilate, who were once enemies,  Joined Forces together with the  Gentiles and the people of Israel, to conspire against Jesus.

Those are against God , underestimate the power of God. The Rulers may have power and authority, but they don’t have Sovereignty.

Opposition is here to stay, as long as we are alive. You might not be physical opposed by anyone.  You are spiritually opposed by evil.

In fact you are in a spiritual wafare. Just like any other war, in order to win, you must face an opposition.

When you battle fight, you don’t under your own judgment, you fight the battle under the authority of your general , or your master.

They gave complete control over to God. When you let God work in your life, God will change everything.

From the beginning till the end, as long as the Devil exist opposition will always exist. Whenever you bring God into the picture, friends ,coworkers and even faimly members may shows signs of ridicule.

Identity

During these times, it’s important you identify yourself . First Identifying yourself as servant of God. You have been choosen  and excluded to live life which bring glory to our God. You  have taken a decision to follow only Christ. You have decided that only God has authority over you.

You have chosen to be his own people.

On Peter and Johns, release they went to their “OWN PEOPLE”

People who commited to serving God
Servants of God. Those who the know the Heavenly Father.

After you Identify yourself,

Its time to take Refuge in heavenly father.

These opposition will exist, but the one takes refuge in Jesus will taken care of  , will be watched over. That’s what Psalms 2 says

For us, during such times of opposition, take refuge in him. Let God be in Control. God is not the business of harming his people.  But in the plans to Prosper. Jeremiah 29:11

In order Overcoming Opposition:

Take Refuge in him by praying.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Psalm 46:1

Our Bible says to Put Trust in Him , Lean on him , Not on your own understanding. He will make your path straight.

Stand firm in his words.

Don’t rely on your understand, but take it upto God. Ask for Courage , ask for boldness.

God will Move mountains,

God will heal the pain thats holding you back.

God will get out of the depression

God will give you strength when you are weak

God will encourage you, when you feel discouraged.

God will make you bold when you are silent
God will give you courage when you are in fear.

When Peter and John relied on God, things started happening. Their place of worship started shaking.. Holy Spirit filled them. . They no longer had fear, their mouths could no longer be shut. They spoke boldness.

Peter and John were just ordinary people. Verse 13

You see When you have been with Jesus, your opposition will get scared of you. They will be astonished. This is just not an ordinary student, ordinary doctor or ordinary nurse.

No man or no devil can deny from learning the truth.

No one can deny from speaking the truth

No one can keep you silent.

.  When Peter and John was seized, they were asked to be silent, they were asked not speak in the name of Jesus.

My experience

What was two thousand years ago , is still true today .
We are still fighting the same opposition that was then and still standing today. As long as the devil is free ,  we will have opposition. But the good thing, we are not by ourselves, we have Jesus with us.  The same Jesus that was present with Peter and John 2000 years ago, is still with us today.  You are still fighting the same battle.  At the end of all this, on that day when you stand before the God, God will say “Job Well Done”

Psalm 2 Against The Anointed ONE

Keywords: Wicked, opposition, Anointed One,suffering,

As your Faith increases, opposition will increase.    Its  sad to mention, but there people in this day of age,  who knows God exist and knows the devil aswell, but they would rather choose the devil.  Unfortunately, Devil worship is more common that many people think. Theistic Satanism is the form of worship devoted to Satan and against God.  But remember, it does require one to be Satnaistic , in order to be against God,  but also   anything against the Truth,or anyone against the Bible is also opposition. There are many religious leaders that are against the teaching  of the truth.  Even ,  25 countries includes these ; Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Sudan and Yemen won’t allow bible in homes because  their leaders have condemned such use.

Devils Objective: discouraged. – Quit on God. Become hopeless. Dependence on God becomes less. God’s work is not being fulfilled.  Ultimate Objective is to go against God.

Psalms 2 verse 2  says ” The Kings of Earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the lord and against his anointed One”.

Kings, rulers, nations and people of different ethnicity , belief will come together go against our Lord and against his anointed One Jesus.

Why? Because, Honestly i think they are afraid.  They are afraid what once was their nation and dominion will be ruled by someone named Jesus. What exist 2000 years ago, exist today.

From the beginning till the end, as long as the Devil exist opposition will always exist. Especially in your life, your friends,  your teachers, you peers will oppose certain things you do  that brings in God into the picture. These opposition will exist, but the one takes refuge in Jesus will taken care of  , will be watched over.

Perseverance

Acts 4: 27;

Herod and  Pontius Pilate, who were once enemies,  Joined Forces together with the  Gentiles and the people of Israel, to conspire against Jesus.
By enforcing  such law that go against the freedom on Christians in these countries, they form a plot against God.

Those are against God , underestimate the power of God. The Rulers may have power and authority, but they don’t have Sovereignty.  The unknown author warns against leaders that goes against God. : ” Then rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath”

Opposition is here to stay, as long as we are alive. You might not be physical opposed by anyone.  You are spiritually opposed by evil.

Seek God and take refuge. Seek shelter and protection in his arms.

Psalm 1 Healthy Posture

Blessed is the man who does NOT

  • who walks in the counsel (advice) of the wicked (ungodly)
  • or stands in the way of sinners; (ungodly)
  • or sit in the seat of mockers;
A healthy Human posture is one who walks, stand and sits with your back straight. Likewise to be a  healthy christian, you must have a good spiritual posture.
A spiritual walk means, to have faith and putting  full trust in him.  In a physical sense, one cannot walk anywhere without the energy that you consume when you eat and drink.
In spiritual sense, you cannot walk in his ways and full his will for you,  unless are feeding yourself with spiritual tools such as the word of God and meditating upon them.

Blessed is the man who

  • walks in the light of your(lords) presence (PS 89:15)
  • Guides the humble in the what is right and teaches them his way
  • and who wins over the mockers ridicule’s.

Verse 2. Importance of Law.

Verse 2 describes the person who is righteous and does not lead a life according to verse 1.
To be righteous, means to be established and be confined in the law of lord.

The law that is  established by God and found only in the word of God.
Its important to delight in the law given to us by our lord and to meditate on it day and night.
Another words, it is important for Christians to mediate upon his words, study it, understand it and  to apply it. By doing such mediation, what you will feel is a sense of delight. Trusting upon his words, in times of fear, sorrow and struggles. His words will bring a delight, joy, and peace.

Being a healthy  christian means having healthy posture and healthy mind.

Psalms Verse 3.  Healthy Christian yields fruits

“Whatever he does prospers” .  Imagine a time, whatever you do always brings you happiness and joy. Everything you do is an accomplishment.

I certainly want prosperity. Who does not. Most people define prosperity as having wealthy,  successfully marriage , and having a good family.

Abraham and along rest of his offspring till now still have prosperity.

We have the same prosperity Go has promised Abraham.  Galatians 3:14

The great reward of being a healthy christian is prosperity.  According to the definition prosperity: flourishing, thriving, good fortune and / or successful social status

Many of us, would love to see ourselves flourishing, thriving , having good fortune , and having a good social status, especially in this time. When the economy is not doing so well.  When people are worried about their future. when there is a lot of Uncertainty  Flourishment and good fortune is what we all seek. Not many of us find it. That’s because many of us are not looking in the right place.  Instead of building a solid foundation based upon truth, knowledge of God, We try to establish a foundation based on temporary things like  money, and pride. And both of these things, as verse 4 says, are like chaff, a wind can just blow them away.

Imagine if you are house is made out of money, your family is made out of money and life is about money.

Mathew 6:33  Says seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

We have to go after him,  to see prosperity in our lives . weather it’s getting good grade, getting a job or having a good healthy marriage.  God will take care of you. In verse 6, the bible says he watches over the way of righteous . Which way are you taking? You all know, there is a good and the bad way. We christian sometimes tend to think, there is middle way. So we do righteous, but then we also what is unrighteous. We fail to realize there is a no middle ground.  When you are fighting this spiritual battle, you are going ahead on against evil. You cannot be  standing in the  middle of field choosing sides. You are either on the side of evil or on the right side, side of Jesus.
